| View in browser Hello there ANZBP members and colleagues, In this newsletter, you will find an important update from our member meeting during Ozwater’22, as well as the ANZBP member survey 2022, the release of ANZBP biosolids production and end-use survey 2021, as well as the latest news and publications on biosolids. ANZBP member survey 2022 ANZBP/AWA would like to thank our members for their ongoing support and engagement in FY21-22, which have allowed us to advocate and promote the sustainable development of biosolids as well as continue to provide members with benefits and services. FY22-23 is shaping to be another big year of action for ANZBP, and we would like to hear from you about what we are doing well, what more we should do, what you would like to see, and what we can improve on. ANZBP biosolids production and end-use survey 2021 In 2010, the Australian & New Zealand Biosolids Partnership (ANZBP) commissioned a national survey to identify the main features of biosolids management across Australia and New Zealand. The survey was repeated in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021. Surveys to 2019, inclusive, catalogued and reported the following primary parameters: Biosolids production; Biosolids end use; Biosolids stabilisation grade; Biosolids contamination grade; (added in 2013) Biosolids primary stabilisation process; Biosolids dewatering process. This year additional data has been collected to both update the survey in line with current and predicted trends and to obtain data that is anticipated to be useful to ANZBP members and government departments. These data are: Biosolids secondary stabilisation processes; End-use management and branding; Stockpile volumes; Transportation of biosolids to the end-use site; Emerging contaminant management; Renewable energy production. The final reports of the survey are now available for ANZBP members on the Member site of the ANZBP website. ANZBP member meeting during Ozwater During Ozwater'22, ANZBP held a Member meeting. It was great to meet and discuss with ANZBP members in person. During the meeting, Kelly Hopewell, Chair of the ANZBP Advisory Committee, updated on ANZBP's recent works and presented ANZBP's focus and priorities in FY22-23. Also, ANZBP members had a chance to share and update their works and help us shape ANZBP's future directions. Forever vigilant: Surveying the effects of PFAS on the future of biosolids management The biosolids management community must remain updated and active on what is happening with PFAS regulations, research, and technologies related to the future of biosolids management.  Read more.   Human waste turned into renewable energy at Australia's first biosolids gasification plant Logan, south of Brisbane, has become the first place in the Southern Hemisphere to turn human waste into renewable energy with the opening of Australia's first biosolids gasification plant. Read more.   CRD looks to gasification, other pilots as possible long-term waste solutions The Capital Regional District is looking into thermal technology pilot programs as potential long-term solutions to local waste. Thermal processing options being investigated include gasification – where high temperatures and oxygen process organic waste into heat and combustible gas – and pyrolysis, the use of decomposition of waste with oxygen and high temperatures to create heat and combustible liquid.
